+ VALDEMINGOMEZ CITY-DUMP RECYCLING PLANT
VALDEMINGÓMEZ,MADRID +
The project is part of a set of actions destinated
on getting a rational rubbish recycle and treatment system
as well as incorporating the closed rubbish tip within the
future Southeast Regional park, one of the most attractive
adventures of the city to equilibrate the social and environmental
differences between north and south.
The recycling plant brings together an heterogeneous rubbish
selection, processing and storage complex, as well as the
workshops and offices, all beneath a vast green inclined roof
which echoes the gravitational nature of the process as well
as the original hillside on which it sits, a hillside “put
back” by making use of the compost produced.
Its volume is wrapped in recycled polycarbonate, which unifies
the different programs and incorporates a museum area with
a display intended to encourage people’s environmental
awareness. The green roof, the polycarbonate, the lightweight
bolted structure and the set of interior facings shows this
spirit, making a constructional system that shows the greatest
environmental commitment that can be obtained using techniques
available on the market.
The building is finished with two complementary constructions,
one intended for the compounds elaboration from organic waste,
and the second, the lorries, that enter the area, control
and weighing. Both of them have been treated as industrial
pieces that go with the scale and singularity of the landscape,
being understood as a general system adaptation to its technical
and landscaping responsibilities.
The complex has a working life of 25 years. After this time
all the materials can be recycled, or they can be used as
parts of the park installations.
