The
initial intention of paving a small square in a village within the
Metropolitan Area of Madrid, caused us to propose that the only available site
be occupied with a village hall that was meant to strengthen civic life. For
the square, we proposed an outline that was capable of reorganizing the unorthodox
group of elements that were to be preserved, while the hall was thought of as
both a covered extension of the square and like a tensed enclosure of its incomplete
body. To materialize both ideas, an extremely light and permeable constructive
system was used, finished with natural or recycled materials that allow continuous
changes of image and very different uses of the space. The project changes the
hierarchies and the perception of the space, setting up a dialogue between memory
and the present with the intention of reflecting the changing condition of these
peripheral areas.
