The
project is located in a typical area of the middle-class suburb,
in which low-density housing, voids, public facilities and small masses of pine
trees intermingle giving shape to an idea of an urban life that is in contact
with nature. We decided to be extremely direct and to stress this desire through
the use of gardening techniques. Thus the whole house can be understood as an
example of a giant ars-topiaria. This is an idea that is not alien to the fact
that it will be a home for a landscape architect. The sloping topography is
taken advantage of to build a house that has a continuity with the natural land,
avoiding the differentiation between the house and the garden: the whole house
is garden and the whole garden is house. The project is a topological mechanism
for the arranging and modelling of the land to increase and to gain the maximum
enjoyment from those weak stimuli of the landscape: the pine trees, the near-by
stream, the setting of the sun over the skyline of Madrid from the house’s highest
point… Natural views and artificial views: green machine.
